To
all of our loyal friends and customers, and
to those we have yet to meet...
We
will be closed for the merry, merry month
of May --
lots of wonderful family events going on --
but we'll be back with bells on in June of
2012!
And
once we're open again, our regular hours for
the Texas SpecialTea Shoppe will remain Saturdays
and Sundays only, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
We will be sure to let you know when that
changes.
We'll
also let you know the schedule (and menus)
for our monthly Friday night suppers.
Meanwhile,
if you're new here, please feel free to browse
our site so you can see what we're all about.
We still plan on posting some new pictures
as soon as we get a moment. (For a look at
our menu, click
here.)
~The Douglases
Like most places
in the U.S., the large metropolitan areas of
Southeast Texas are overrun with chain coffee
shops, smoothie stores, and fast-food joints.
But there is only one Texas Specialtea Shoppe.
And you have to get away from the city to get
here.
Nestled in the lovely verdant
woods of northeast Waller County, Texas Specialtea
Shoppe offers a delicious reprieve from big-city
traffic jams, lookalike strip centers, and assembly-line
"refreshments." Once you've been here,
you'll see what you've been missing. And we
bet you'll want to come back as soon as you
can.
Tea...and more. Don't let our name fool you; we're
much more than a tea shop, although we do serve
up a mean glass of peach iced tea (or raspberry,
when the mood suits us), and we offer a tantalizing
variety of gourmet loose teas as well. But we
have a lot more to offer you. We're always busy
in our kitchen, preparing a variety of treats
both sweet and savory...from our fragrant homemade
soups (our tomato basil soup never fails to
win raves), to our delectable Belgian waffles
and French toast (available on weekends), to
home-baked breads that make you truly understand
why they call it "the staff of life,"
to healthy, refreshing fare such as homemade
hummus or our feta-laced Greek salads, to our
eye-rollingly good brownies and cobblers. Oh,
and we've been known to concoct some delicious
smoothies too.
Something for
everyone, including the kids... and the dogs
(and the horses). We are not just a place for food and
drink; we're a browser's delight as well. We
offer an ever-changing selection of gift items
for sale by local craftspeople and artisans.
We are also a veritable mini-museum of fascinating
collectibles that aren't for sale but are loads
of fun to look at while you're enjoying your
meal.
We even have a special kids'
zone for younger tea connoisseurs, with kid-size
tables, chairs and play food-prep stations,
as well as dolls, toys, and books to keep the
munchkins occupied while you sit back and relax.
Recognizing that dogs are part of the family
too (and being dedicated dog lovers ourselves),
we have an outdoor dog-friendly area for your
four-legged friends needing some respite and
water complete with some faux
fire hydrants. There are even a couple of "hitchin'
posts" for our horse-loving neighbors who
may prefer to saddle up and ride over for breakfast.
Dine in or take
out. We're always glad for you to linger,
but we recognize that sometimes you're in a
hurry, so we will happily prepare your food
to go. Should you choose to dine in, you have
a choice of our homey indoor area or our pleasant
covered porch, which features a wheelchair ramp
and ceiling fans for extra ventilation. Our
outdoor dining area is an utter delight on warm
spring or cool autumn days.
There is nothing
like a walk in the woods. After you're finished eating and browsing,
you might want to take a leisurely stroll along
our natural wooded walking trails. (We'll have
more information about our trails on this site
soon.)Our forest is a pleasure for
birdwatchers and nature lovers of all types.
And if you love the place so much that you'd
like to stay longer...well, we don't blame you.
You just might be in luck, because we just might
have a vacancy at our Waller Holler Cottage Bed &
Breakfast.
Your
special event is our
"special-tea." Planning a bridal or baby shower,
birthday party, anniversary celebration, or
other private party? Talk to us. We can help
you make it an event to remember. Or if your
club or group is searching for a nice spot for
monthly meetings or weekly get-togethers, we
might be exactly what you're looking for. We're
only a phone call away: 936-372-0097.
Our web site is
a work in progress...and we hope you'll check back often.
As you'll see, some of these pages are still
under construction. But soon we'll have an expanded
photo section, more information about local
history and lore, select recipes, and more.
Meanwhile, the links at the top and bottom of
this and every page on the site lead to more
information about who we are and what we do.
(We will activate the links to our blog as well
as to our Twitter and Facebook pages as soon
as those are up and running.)
Better yet, pay
us a visit! The link above the picture of our shop
leads to the Google map, but here it is again. (You can get driving directions by
typing in your point of origin.) Or if you're
familiar with the general area and a simple
map will do, here you are:
If maps and online directions
confuse you, just give us a call at 936-372-0097.
Have fun browsing our site...
and we hope to serve you soon!
